Founding History

22 November 2011 — Foundation of RAAS

The Association was initiated and first led by the outstanding scientist and academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Evgeny Pavlovich Velikhov. His vision laid the core idea of RAAS: uniting citizens and public organizations to advance Russian science and shape national science and technology policy.

4 April 2025 — M. V. Kovalchuk elected Chairman of the Presidium

At a conference held at the National Research Center “Kurchatov Institute”, Mikhail Valentinovich Kovalchuk was elected Chairman of the Presidium of RAAS. In his speech, he emphasized: “We must use the opportunities offered by our Association as a complement to the major ongoing efforts to strengthen science in the country.”

Join RAAS

The Russian Association for the Advancement of Science is open to those who share our goals and wish to actively contribute to the development of Russian science.

Who can become a member of RAAS:

  • Citizens of the Russian Federation and foreign citizens who are at least 18 years old.
  • Public associations (legal entities) that support the goals and objectives of the Association.

Steps to join:

Submit an application

Write a formal application
letter in the prescribed form.

Obtain recommendations

Prepare at least two written recommendations from current RAAS members.

Wait for a decision

Your candidacy will be reviewed by the RAAS
Presidium or a regional branch.

Rights:

  • participate in Association events and projects;
  • vote and be elected to governing bodies;
  • submit proposals for the development of the organization;
  • serve on the expert council.

Obligations:

  • comply with the RAAS Charter;
  • take part in achieving the Association’s goals and objectives;
  • refrain from actions that discredit the organization.

Membership in RAAS is voluntary. You may leave the organization at any time by submitting a written application. Ready to join?
